Crown Repair

As you can see by the illustration, your chimney may look safe from the top, however the interior can be in very dangerous condition.  

Cracks in the flue lines are very small to the naked eye but when the chimney is heated, the cracks grow large enough to allow fire to escape from between the mortar joints. 

You can imagine how much damage this could cause if left unchecked.

Above is an example of a crown that has deteriorated due to water penetrating through the mortar joints and when the water freezes, it causes serious damage that is beyond patching. However this type of repair can be avoided.
